What is the S.E.A School?
The S.E.A School is Southern Encounter Aquarium & Kiwi House's LEOTC (Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom) education programme, supported by the Ministry of Education. Our on-site, registered teacher provides interactive learning experiences for students ranging from New Entrants to Year 13.
 |
Our teacher develops a customised programme to meet the different requirements of each school group. The programme is designed to link with topics that students are studying at school and meets the objectives of the New Zealand Curriculum. |
Popular study areas include Adaptations, Behaviour, Classification, Endangered Species, Unique Jobs and the Rocky Shore.
These programmes are designed to meet the Achievement Objectives of Science, Biology and Social Studies Curricula but programmes can be developed to fulfil your requirements in any year level or area of the Curriculum.

Times
Bookings can be made for 9.30am, and 12.00pm and we try to include an opportinity for all students to see or participate in an animal feed. Bookings can be made for other times to suit your transport arrangements and we will endeavour to alter feed times to suit.
Education programmes are typically 2 hours duration but extended programmes can easily be developed on request. Observation of a feed may extend the programme duration by 10 minutes.
Bookings are essential and we recommend you book in with our Educator as early as possible to ensure your preferred date is available.
Student Numbers
There is an approximate limit of 66 students in a visiting school group (dictated by seating). However, smaller groups allow students more opportunity to participate and better access to the Educators to ask questions, which will enhance the educational value of the visit.
